640. Where the demand for the production of documents is
made by one contending party agai nst another, it shall be made in
the same manner as the demand fo r a reference to the oath of th e
opposite party; and where such demand is made against third
parties, it shall be made by app lication or in the subpoena to give
evidence as witness.
