573. (1) Where two things belonging to different owners have been united in such a manner as to form a whole, but can nevertheless be separated without considerable damage to either of them, each of the owners shall retain the ownership of his own thing, and shall be entitled to demand separation. 164 [CAP. 16. CIVIL CODE (2) Where, however, the two things cannot be separated without considerable damage to one of them, the whole shall belong to the owner of the thing which forms the principal part thereof, subject to his obligation to pay to the other owner the value of the thing united to his own. Which part is to be considered as principal.
