Police Act (Cap. 164), article 13
13. (1) Every member of the Force shall undergo continuous
professional development and undertake such training and assess ment
as may be prescribed.
(2) Tests may be carried out over a period of time on an assessm ent
basis in order to appraise the efficiency and professional skil l of
members of the Force and may include routine medical and physic al
tests and urine drug screening, or alco hol, or any other similar test , to
ascertain their suitability for the Force.
Oath of Office.14. (1) Before entering upon duties on appointment, all new or
re-admitted members of the Force shall take the oath of office
contained in the First Schedule, which oath shall be taken and signed
by all officers before a person duly empowered by law to admini ster an
oath.

(2) All civilians including technical specialists shall be bound by
the provisions of the Professional Secrecy Act .
Resignation.15. (1) Any member of the Force who wishes to resign or
withdraw from his duties shall give to the Minister such prior notice,
not exceeding thirty days, as the Minister may require by notic e in the
Gazette, of his intention to res ign or withdraw himself from hi s duties,
as the case may be, gi ving reasons therefor.
(2) The Minister shall grant permission to any member of the For ce
for resignation or withdrawal after the lapse of the period so required
unless such member -
(a) is the subject of discipli nary proceedings before the
Public Service Commission which have not been
determined; or
(b) is charged with an offence triable by a court of
criminal jurisdiction; or
(c) has otherwise rendered himself liable to be dismissed
or removed from the Force,
in which cases the Minister may either delay his permission
until the proceedings, trial or dismissal procedures have been
concluded or grant such permis sion under specified conditions.

(3) Any member of the Force whose period of notice expires
during the occurrence or apprehended occurrence of hostilities,
internal disorder, or other grave emergency of any kind, may be
retained and his service prolonged for such further period, not
exceeding twelve months, as the Minister may direct.
