2. (1) In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires:  Cap. 9. "appropriate consent" shall have t he same meaning assigned to i t by article 350 of the Criminal Code ; "Commissioner of Police" shall have the same meaning assigned t o it by article 6(1); "the European Union” means the Eu ropean Union as referred to in the Treaty; "the Force" means th e Malta Police Force; "gazetted officer" means any police officer of or above the ran k of Inspector; "Internal Audit and Investigations Unit" shall have the same meaning assigned to it by article 37(1); "member of the Force" means any police officer other than the Commissioner; "Minister" means the Ministe r responsible for the Police;  Cap. 9. "non-intimate sample" shall have the same meaning assigned to i t by article 350 of the Criminal Code ; "Police" means the Malta Police Force; "Police Governance Board" m eans the Governance Board established by virtue of article 5; "police officer" means any person serving in the Force and incl udes the Commissioner; "premises" means any place, vehic le, vessel, aircraft, seacraft , including an off-shore installa tion, or any temporary or moveab le structure; "prescribed" means prescribed by regulations made under this Ac t; "protected witness" means a per son admitted to a witness protec tion programme under article 40(1); "seconding Member State" means the Member State of the European Union which authorizes its officers or other officials to participate in joint patrols and operations with the Police as provided in article 80(1); POLICE ACT [CAP. 164. 3 "seconded officers" means officers or other officials of a seco nding Member State; "The Independent Police Complaints Board " means the board established by virtue of article 35;  Cap. 460. "the Treaty" shall have the same meaning assigned to it by arti cle 2 of the European Union Act .
