Maltese Citizenship Act (Cap. 188), article 2
2. (1) In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires -
"alien" means a person who is not a citizen of Malta;
"appointed day" has the same meaning as is assigned to it by
article 124 of the Constitution ;
"certificate of naturalisation" means a certificate of
naturalisation granted under this Act;
"the Constitution" means the Constitution of Malta ;
"foreign country" means a country other than Malta;
"Malta" has the same meaning as is assigned to it by article 12 4
of the Constitution of Malta ;
"Maltese consulate" means an offi ce of a consular officer of th e
Government of Malta where a register of births or residents is kept
or, where there is no such offi ce, such office as may be prescr ibed;
"the Minister" means the Minister for the time being responsibl e
for matters relating to Maltese citizenship and, to the extent of the
authority given, includes any pe rson authorised by such Ministe r to
act on his behalf;
"oath", "swear" and "affidavit" include, in the case of persons
allowed by any law to make a d eclaration or affirmation instead of
taking an oath, a declaration or affirmation;
"prescribed" means prescribed b y regulations made under this
Act;
"stateless" means destitute of any nationality and "stateless
person" shall be construed accordingly.
(2) For the purpose of this Act, a person born aboard a
registered ship or aircraft, or aboard an unregistered ship or aircraft
of the government of any country, shall be deemed to have been
born in the place in which the ship or aircraft was registered or, as
the case may be, in that country.
(3) A person shall, for the purposes of this Act, be of full age if
he has attained the age of eight een years and of full capacity if he is
not of unsound mind.
