Merchant Shipping Act (Cap. 234), article 134
134. (1) Where a seaman is discharged, and the settlement of
his wages completed, he shall sign a release, in a form approve d by
the Minister, of all claims in respect of the past voyage or
engagement and the release shall also be signed by the master o r
owner of the ship.

(2) The release so signed and attested shall operate as a mutual
discharge and settlement of all demands between the parties the reto
in respect of the past voyage or engagement.
(3) The release shall be delivered to and retained by the
shipping master and on production from his custody shall, until the
contrary is proved, be evidence of its contents, provided its
authenticity is proved.
(4) Notwithstanding anything in this article, a seaman may
except from the release signed by him under this article any
specified claim or demand against the master or owner of the sh ip,
and a note of any claim or demand so excepted shall be entered
upon the release. The release sha ll not operate as a discharge and
settlement of any claim or deman d so noted, nor shall sub-artic le
(4) apply to any payment, receipt or settlement made with respe ct
to any such claim or demand.
