Merchant Shipping Act (Cap. 234), article 218
218. (1) If the Minister, on receipt o f declarations of survey in
respect of a passenger ship to wh ich article 207 applies, is sa tisfied
that the requirements of this Part of this Act in respect of
construction and equipment applicable to such ship have been
complied with, he shall, on the application of the owner, issue a
certificate stating such compliance and stating, according to t he
declarations -
(a) the limits (if any) beyond which the ship is not fit to
ply; and
(b) the number of passengers whic h the ship is fit to carry,
distinguishing, if necessary , the number to be carried
in each part of the ship, and any conditions or
variations to which the number is subject;
and any certificate issued under this sub-article is in this Ac t
referred to as a "passen ger ship certificate".
(2) Any general safety certificate or short-voyage safety
certificate, whether qualified or not, may be combined in one
document with a passe nger ship certificate.
