223. (1) The Minister may request the government of a country to which the Safety Convention applies to issue in respect of a Maltese ship any certificate, other than a passenger ship certificate, the issue of which is authorised under the foregoing provisions of this Part of this Act; and a certificate issued in pursuance of such a request and containing a statement that it has been so issued shall have effect for the purposes of this Act as if it had been issued by the Minister and not by the government of that country. (2) Where in pursuance of a request made under this article the government of the country requested to issue a certificate is willing to issue a qualified certificate but is not willing to issue the corresponding exemption certificate, the Minister may issue the exemption certificate in respect of the ship. Certificates in duplicate and fees for certificates.
