237. ( 1 ) T h e m a s t e r o f e v e r y M a l t e s e s h i p s h a l l c a u s e t o b e
entered in the official log book a statement of every occasion on
which boat-drill or fire-drill is practised on board the ship o r on
which the appliances and equipment required by the rules for li fe-
saving appliances to be carried are examined to see whether the y
are fit and ready for use, and of the result of any such examin ation;
and if the boat-drill or fire-dr ill are not practised on board the ship
or the said appliances and equipment are not examined in any su ch
period as is prescribed by the said rules in respect of the shi p, the
master shall cause a statement to be entered as aforesaid of th e
reasons why the drill was not practised, or the appliances and
equipment were not exa mined, in that period.
(2) If the master of a ship fails to comply with any requirement
of this article he shall for each offence be liable to a fine ( multa) not
exceeding twenty units.
