Merchant Shipping Act (Cap. 234), article 308
308. (1) If the owner, or the person to whom is entrusted the
management, of a Maltese ship has reason, owing to the non-
appearance of the ship or to any other circumstance, to apprehe nd
that the ship has been wholly lo st, he shall, as soon as conven iently
may be, send to the Minister not ice in writing of the loss and of the
probable occasion thereof, sta ting the name of the ship.
(2) If any such person as aforesaid fails without reasonable
cause to comply with this articl e within a reasonable time, he shall
for each offence be liable to a fine ( multa) not exceeding fifty units.
