57. (1) Where a registered ship is so altered as not to correspond with the particulars relating to her tonnage or description contained in the reg ister, an application accompani ed by a certificate from the proper surveyor, requesting the registration of the alteration shall be made to the registrar w ho shall, on receipt thereof accompan ied as aforesaid, either caus e the alteration to be registered or di rect that the ship be register ed anew. (2) If default is made in making an application as required by this article, or in registering anew a ship if s o directed as a foresaid, the owner of the ship shall be liable to a fine ( multa) not exceeding one hundred units and, in addition to a fine ( multa) not exceeding five units for every day during which the offence continues aft er conviction.
