Social Security Act (Cap. 318), article 130
130. (1) There shall be established a Committee, to be known
as Welfare Committee consisting of a Chairman and of not less t han
eight other members appointed by the Minister, of whom two shal l
be medical practitioners, one from each side of the House of
Representatives, one from the Department for the Elderly and
Community Services, one from the Department of Social Security
and one from the Department of Health. The other members shall
be chosen from among the inmates of institutions referred to in
article 93, members of their families, members of workers’
committees, or other persons who, in the opinion of the Ministe r,
are qualified to serve on the Committee.
(2) The Minister shall also appoint a Secretary to the
Committee, who will not be a member.
(3) The Chairman and the other members of the Committee
shall be appointed for a peri od not exceeding one year, but sha ll be
eligible for re-appointment.
(4) The quorum shall be half the total number of the members
comprising the Committee.
(5) Subject to sub-article (4), the Committee may act
notwithstanding any vacan cy amongst i ts members.
(6) Subject to the provisions of this article the Committee may
regulate its own procedure.
