Traffic Regulation Ordinance (Cap. 65), article 51
51. (1) It shall be lawful for the Authority for Transport in
Malta to cancel or suspend for a ny period the licence of any dr iver
who, in the exercise of his calling, shall infringe any of the
provisions of this Act or in connection with the exercise of su ch
licence contravenes any other law or otherwise behaves in a man ner
that does not befit the e xercise of his calling.
Cap. 12. The provisions of article 469A of the Code of Organization
and Civil Procedure shall apply to the exercise of the discretion of
the Authority under this article.

case of disobedi-
ence of lawful
orders.
(2) Any Police officer may seize any vehicle for hire if the
driver thereof refuses to obey a lawful order of the Police or in the
case of any infringement of any of the provisions of this Ordin ance
or any regulation relating to vehicular traffic, and such vehic le
may, upon an order in writing of any Police officer not inferio r in
rank to sub-inspector, be detained for a time not exceeding twe nty-
four hours, pending an inquiry i nto the circumstances of the ca se.
