Criminal Code (Cap. 9), article 5A
5A. The provisions of this Code and of any subsidiary legislation
made thereunder shall also apply, in accordance with the provis ions of
the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea as rat ified
by the Law of the Sea (Ratification) Act , to an exclusive economic
zone area or an environment pr otection area as defined in the
Exclusive Economic Zone Act . Any artificial island, installation,
structure, equipment or device therein shall, solely for the pu rposes of
this Code and any subsidiary legislation made thereunder, be tr eated as
if they were situated in Malta itself.
Criminal and
civil actions are
independent of
each other.
