Civil Code (Cap. 16), article 372
372. (1) The usufructuary of an entir e estate, or o f a portion of
an estate, is bound to pay, in proportion to his enjoyment, and
without any right of recovery, a ny maintenance allowances, any
perpetual or life annuity, and any interest on debts to which t he
estate may be liable.
(2) Where any capital has to be paid, if the usufructuary is
willing to advance the amount, such amount shall be returned to
him by the owner, without any interest, at the end of the usufr uct.
(3) If the usufructuary is not w illing to make such advance, the
owner may effect the payment eit her with his own money, in whic h
case the usufructuary shall pay to him interest thereon during the
continuance of the usufruct, or by causing a portion of the pro perty
subject to the usufruct to be sol d, to the extent of the sum du e.
