557. A possessor in bad faith shall also be liable for all damage which may have been occasioned by his own act as well as for th at occasioned by a fortuitous event unless, whatever the manner in which he may have obtained possession of the thing, he shows th at the thing would have equally perished or deteriorated if it had been in the possession of the owner. § III.
