564. (1) Any person who finds a movable thing, not being a treasure trove, is bound to restore it to its previous possesso r, if known: otherwise he is bound to deliver it without delay to the Police. (2) The Commissioner of Police shall publish by means of a 162 [CAP. 16. CIVIL CODE notice in the Gazette a list of t he movable things referred to in sub- article (1) of this article, and shall re-publish such list, wi th the exception of the things claimed by their owner, after three mon ths of the said notice. (3) At the expiration of three months from the date of the publication of the second notice, if the owner has not appeared to claim the thing, such thing or, where circumstances have render ed its sale expedient, the price th ereof, shall belong to the find er. (4) The owner or the finder, as the case may be, shall, on withdrawing the thing or its pri ce, pay any expenses which may have been incurred. (5) Moreover, the owner who withdraws the thing, shall pay to the finder a reward to be regulat ed according to circumstances, and not exceeding one-tenth part of the value o f the thing found. (6) If, within the lapse of six months of the first notice published in the Gazette under sub-article (2) of this article, neither the finder nor the owner claims the thing or the price thereof, such thing or price, as the case may be, shall belong to the Governm ent.
