Criminal Code (Cap. 9), article 383
383. (1) The court may, where it d eems it expedient, in order
to provide for the safety of individuals or for the keeping of the
public peace, in addition to, or in lieu of the punishment appl icable
to the offence, require the offender to enter into his own
recognizance in a sum of mone y to be fixed by the court.

(2) Such sum shall not be less than one hundred and sixteen euro
and forty-seven cents (€116.47) nor more than two thousand and three
hundred and twenty-nine euro and thirty-seven cents (€2,329.37)
according to the means of the par ty entering into a recognizanc e,
and the term of the recognizance shall no t exceed twelve months .
Commencement

(3) Where the offender entering into a recognizance is, in
respect of the same offence, sen tenced to a punishment restrict ive
of personal liberty, the term of the recognizance shall commenc e to
run from the day on which the said punishment is served or
condoned.
