Criminal Code (Cap. 9), article 648
648. In order to identify any person whose identity is required
to be proved, or in order to identify any object to be produced in
evidence, it shall not, as a rule, be necessary that the witnes s should
recognize such person from among other persons, or pick out suc h
object from among other similar objects, unless the court, in s ome
particular case, shall deem it expedient to adopt such course f or the
ends of justice.
