143. A seaman or apprentice shall not be entitled to wages for any time during which he unlawfu lly refuses or neglects to work , when required, whether before or after the time fixed by the agreement for his commencement of such work, nor, unless the court hearing the case otherwise directs, for any period during which he is lawfully imprisoned for any offence committed by hi m. Forfeiture of wages when illness caused by own fault.
